History

CoverQuiz was my first app in the AppStore. The idea for this app came from the, at the time very popular, genre of “Logos Quizzes”. These were simple quizzes where you were presented the logo of a company, where the company name was removed and you had to guess the name of the company. A very simple concept that could be very fun. At the same time I was curating my at the time iTunes music collection by adding album covers to all of my music. I always liked album covers and think that they can help to set the mood for a song or album. The third fitting coincidence was, that at that time we were working with image editing software in my art class in school. At one point we learned how to remove unwanted objects from images, for example a crane from an otherwise nice photo.

All of these three things combined resulted in musicCoverQuiz. I applied what I learned about image editing, to remove album and artist names from the covers and then put them into an app. The process was great fun and resulted in my first finished, AppStore ready project. The app is available in the store to this day, albeit a little dusty to be honest.

I am currently working on an all new version of the app, with many more covers and a completely new design, you can find some screenshots above. This will be the third big redesign of this app that has seen all ages of Apple software design, from skeumorphic iOS 5 to flat iOS 7 to the current style. I am very excited about the current work and will share more details in the future in the below dev diary.
